Holding by Kakasi

Today we introduce to you a producer currently located in Japan. Known for the genres hiphop, lofi, and jazz. Kakasi gives us a production consisting of samples, vocals and a smooth saxophone melody that makes an occasional appearance. We decided we wanted to gain some insight on what Kakasi's creative process is like, so, we asked him a couple questions that would help us pick his brain.

Kakasi, like all creatives, had a certain muse that inspired the sound of this production. He told us, "I made it by sampling under the influence of jazz." This influence was definitely heard throughout the track. Whether it be the easy-going tempo, the laid back vibe, or the bass guitar that adds flavor to the production, Kakasi does a fantastic job emulating jazz; taking his own spin on the genre. When asked if he had any special equipment for this production, Kakasi said, "I used my mpc3000." An interesting production tool; the mpc3000 is a powerful sampler and sequencer that allows Kakasi to create the drums and vocal chops heard throughout his track.

The cover art for Holding consists of an edited picture of Kakasi standing to the right looking down at his hands which are occupied holding his phone. When asked about how he created this simplistic, yet impactful cover art, he responded, "I made it by processing my own photo." For many producers, they usually have an aspect of the creative process they are fond of. For Kakasi, he told us it was, "When the saxophone rings. It feels good and comfortable when the a cappella voice comes in." Big shout out to Kakasi for providing us with this amazing production. For many of us, times can get stressful. For days where you just need to take a break and mellow out, Kakasi's "Holding" is the track for you :)
